Off the lot, you get whatever color and options happen to be on the ground. A factory custom order gets you the exact 110 or 130 you actually want— engine, seating, color, and trim—built to spec at the factory instead of chosen from whatever combination happens to already be sitting on our lot.
The Short Version
To custom order a Defender 110 or 130, you work with our sales team to configure the exact engine, seating layout, color, and options you want, then submit that order to Land Rover for factory production. Once it's paired with a build slot, expect roughly 3 to 6 months from order to delivery, depending on the body, engine, and how far in advance you order.

Factory orders open up the full exterior color palette and wheel options, plus interior trim and upholstery combinations rarely found on lot-stocked vehicles.
None of these choices are locked in until your Last Amendment Date, so it's worth starting with your priorities in rough order—engine and body first, since those affect price and towing capability most, then seating, then appearance—rather than trying to finalize every detail in the first conversation.
A full factory order isn't the only way to get close to your ideal spec. If your priority list is short—a specific engine and color, say, without every option box checked—our sales team can also search dealer networks for a matching Defender that's already built or in transit, which is typically weeks rather than months away. That trade is real: a located vehicle may not match every option exactly, while a full custom order gets you precisely what you configure but on a longer timeline. Most buyers land on one or the other once they see how close a located vehicle actually comes to what they had in mind.
Factory allocations for any given model year are limited, and they get claimed as the year progresses—order early in a production cycle and you're competing for a wider open slate of build slots; order late and you risk your build sliding into the following model year's schedule instead, which can also shift pricing and available options. If you already know the spec you want, there's rarely a downside to submitting the order sooner rather than waiting to see what shows up on the lot.
A 3-to-6-month order window is also time to settle everything around the purchase itself, so delivery day is just a pickup instead of a paperwork session.

As a franchised Land Rover retailer, we submit factory orders directly to Jaguar Land Rover and get production and shipping updates as your Defender moves through the build process. You'll work with one sales consultant from configuration through delivery, rather than starting the conversation over each time you have a question about where your order stands. If your ideal spec doesn't need a full custom order, our team can also check whether something close is already in transit or on another dealer's lot before you commit to the longer factory timeline.
We also keep you updated as your build moves from allocation to production to shipping, rather than leaving you to guess at status between the order date and delivery. If a delay or change comes up on the factory side—a shifted production week, for example—you'll hear it from us directly instead of finding out when you call to check.
